Pak Ou Caves

Publié le par Gaelle, Aisyah, Socheata... what else ?

If LP in itself is not enough, no problem : you have some day-trips just waiting for you. One of them is Pak Ou caves - 2 hours of slow boat, stop in a traditionnal village, caves, going back.

Bridge to the "traditionnal" village, from the Mae Khong River

The village is supposed to specialize in the fabrication of the Laos whisky, the lao-lao. But it soon became a stop-over on the way to the caves and then all the women got back to their machine-woven, transforming the village into a display of bright, colourful, really beautiful scarves and hangings. Which I unfortunately don't need...

During this time, men go fishing...
That is... when the nests are not drying along the walls...
When rummaging around the river side, you can still find a distillery, where a guy make the lao-lao out of sticky rice and water. Don't ask me how, the only words he knew were "sticky rice", "water" and "4 dollars" ^^

The caves in themselves are not so big or impressive but they contain about 4,000 statues of Buddha. Wood, clay, cast, missing arms, missing the head, a golden patch aroung a leg...
