Pulau Perhentian

The Perhentian Islands (Pulau Perhentian) are two small islands : the Big one (P.P Besar) and the Small one (P.P Kecil). Kecil is supposed to be cheaper and appeals more to the backpackers style tourists. On the East side, you have Long Beach (Pasir Panjang), a long strech of sand with an all-blue sea... and crowded with people and small restaurants. On the west side, it's Coral Bay, smaller, "less fun" (no disco parties... so sad) but with the sea as blue and warm than on the other side. You'll never guess on which side I took a hostel ?

In the woods, towards the fishermen village where no-one goes walking (they take a boat). I didn't do it to the village, I stopped right here, it was too beautiful to go on...

And I was all alone mwahaha
Coral Bay (my beach)

Okay, this is the official view from my balcony

Coral Bay in the evening, colors fade
View from an ugly concrete jetty they built in the middle of the bay. It's way too big for the needs of the beach right now but the National Park managers see ahead (tourists coming) and decided they would need a big one. It's right in the middle of the bay and is hiding the sunset for most of the small hostels and restaurants. Why here, then ? Because if it was further south, it would have blocked the sunset view for the resort the Park managers are building. Who said even National Parks were corrupted ? Me ? Ah... Maybe...

Malays kids go out in the evening, when tourists are beginning to go back to the hostels

From the restaurant of my hotel. Two Malays tourists are snorkelling over a giant Sea Dragon. Ah, we're not in a book ? Anyway... I did snorkelling too right there the next morning and I saw a 1-meter wide turtle, eating breakfast quietly just below me. I was so surprised I almost breathed in water... ^^; And it is beautiful !

View from Coral Bay

Stone charms

And here comes the jetty...
Long Beach - Pasir Panjang

Pulau Perhentian Besar in the background, from the South point of Long Beach

A Malay guy !! First one... Look like all the locals prefer to go on Besar for holidays...

Culture choc... Too much clothes or not enough ?

Long Beach

On the path to the fishermen village

Okay, stop here... and dive
Coral Bay again - Last moments

Sunday evenings

The coral is dying... No need to take your mask and go snorkelling to notice it, you can see it from the beach. It's all white and white is the coral take when it's dead. You do have fish but so few compared to what it should be. Mass tourism... One day, the jetty will be of no use, if they go on killing the island...

From the jetty... dead corals

And I didn't even throw the flower in the sea... I don't know where it's coming from...
